Translators who limit themselves to work from the construction field are generally regarded as "very specialized". As a subject area, however, construction embraces an immense variety of trades and disciplines:

  • Structural trades for building construction/civil engineering: concreting, masonry, structural steelwork and timberwork, facade engineering, roofing, earthwork, highway engineering, pipelines, bridge engineering, tunnelling etc.
  • Fit-out: windows, doors, partitions, wall, floor and ceiling finishes, plastering and painting, joinery and metalwork
  • Building services: hot/cold water supply, sanitary engineering, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR), power and telecommunications installations, transport, building management systems
